ASI Coin-Op Olympics
A bit last minute, just found out about the show from Adam this morning:
Filed under las vegas, video games | Comment (0)The public is invited to try cutting-edge arcade games before they even appear in local entertainment centers! The Amusement Showcase International is pleased to announce that for the first time in its history, it will open its doors to the public on its final show day, Saturday, March 29, from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Members of the public who attend will be the first outside of the industry to try exciting new games from well-known arcade companies. Tournament play will be available on many new games with prizes awarded to the highest scores of the day. Local Las Vegas celebrities will be attending to compete in a special celebrity tournament with prizes going to their favorite charities.
“We want to give the public a chance to try the newest, hottest games on the market,” said Michael Rudowicz, President of the American Amusement Machine Association, which sponsors ASI. “The consumer’s opinion of the new games is important to the game manufacturers as well as to the buyers who attend the show. Who better to help an entertainment center operator choose which new games to buy than the people who will be playing them?”
Public admission to ASI is available only on Saturday, March 29, from 12 p.m.-4 p.m. Admission is $10 per person. Children under 10 are free. Registration will close at 3 p.m.
Pre-registration is recommended. Please click here to download a registration form.
The Amusement Showcase International will be located in the lower level of the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall S1. ASI is the annual spring trade show for distributors, operators, manufacturers and suppliers of coin- operated amusements, music and games.
More on the Clark County Dem Convention
I’ve got a whole slew of stuff from the day captured on audio, but others have done better and provided some actual video. This makes me happy, now all I’ve gotta do is write up a few words and toss out links versus spending the evening cleaning up sound files. Hurray internet!
Update: Eh whatever, it was easy, added a few audio files to the post.
So, in roughly chronological order…
From PolitickerNV, here’s Bill Stanley attempting to recess the convention due to the chaos of the day. At this time, the crowd didn’t exactly care for the idea.
I’ve uploaded audio of the whole exchange:
Somewhere in the middle of things, Al Franken gave his speech.
I missed the first few seconds where he quipped about how none of the day’s events were his fault, but the rest is there. It was a good speech, and I wish him the best of luck in Minnesota.
Next came the motion to caucus, which went slightly better:
Franky sent over his video of Billy Vassiliadis addressing the Obama campaign gathering (where I was located) after the two camps decided to split up and figure out a way to resolve the day’s mess:
As you can see, this time around the same proposal to recess had an ultimately favorable reaction. The two campaigns regrouped in the main hall, the motion passed, and everyone went home, shaking their heads.

Clark County Democratic Convention
Been a crazy day so far, six hours into it. Updating the interesting bits on twitter as the day progresses.

Tina and I attended the Nevada Democratic Caucus on Saturday and cast our lots with the Obama camp, who, although he lost the popular vote, won out the day with 13 delegates over Hillary’s 12.
Organization was a mess. No one had any clue what precinct they were in, an issue as everyone was supposed to be grouped by precinct. I wound up being thrown into the mix, a line of folks in front of me as I looked up addresses and numbers on the caucus website. Hillary people were yelling at Obama people, no one could hear any of the official letter reading bits, and there weren’t enough forms to go around. A dozen or so people turned in handwritten votes on purple construction paper.
Still, it was an interesting experience, a chance to meet the neighbors, and hey, we were making history!
